Wife, in-laws booked for man’s suicide

Ludhiana: Tibba police have booked a woman and her relatives on the charge of abetment to suicide after the woman’s husband allegedly ended his life by consuming some poisonous substance because of alleged torture by them. The accused have been identified as Geeta, her father Ved Prakash, nephew Ajay Kumar, her sister-in-law Suman and her relatives Sita Ram and Neela.
In his police complaint, Jatinder Kumar of Gurmail Park, brother of deceased 38-year-old Sanjay Kumar, who used to worked in a packing factory, said that his brother was married to Geeta in 2005. He added that the accused used to harass and torture his brother due to which he went away from his home on December 31 and on Wednesday his body was found from Puneet Nagar bridge.

The complainant added that the accused snatched his brother’s money and even took away the cash he he got after selling his plot near Meherban road. He added that the father of Geeta would ask him to sleep outside, whereas others used to sleep inside, even in this cold weather. The brother of deceased said that Neela had even threatened to kill him.

He added that because of the alleged torture he was under depression and left home without informing anyone. Tibba police after recovering the body of the deceased have booked the accused under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Investigating officer (IO) of the case ASI Major Singh said that the accused were yet to be arrested. He added that the deceased was identified from his Aadhar card that he had in his pocket. He added that the victim had apparently consumed some poisonous substance.
