Tiruvarur: Unable to bear his daily torture, a woman beat her 48-year-old alcoholic husband with a hammer on his head leading to his death in Tiruvarur in the early hours of Tuesday. Later, the accused surrendered before the Tiruvarur taluk police station and she was arrested.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as A Ravi, an agriculture labourer and resident of Kattur. His wife R Chitra, 38, was a homemaker and the couple has two adult sons. Since Ravi was a habitual drinker, he used to create a ruckus with Chitra every day. As usual, he arrived at the house in an inebriated condition on Monday night and picked up a quarrel with Chitra. It went on till early morning and at one point, unable to bear his torture, Chitra picked up a hammer and hit Ravi on his head.
He collapsed on the spot under the impact. Soon, Chitra went to the Tiruvarur taluk police station and surrendered before the police personnel confessing her crime, police said. Police registered a case and are investigating.
