West Bengal: Man commits suicide after being blackmailed by girlfriend

A 21-year-old man from West Bengal’s South 24 Paraganas committed suicide after being threatened and blackmailed his girlfriend. The youth reportedly jumped before a moving train.

A man from West Bengal's South 24 Paraganas district of West Bengal allegedly committed suicide after being allegedly threatened and blackmailed by his girlfriend. The deceased has been identified as Sourav Ghosh (21).

Police said that Ghosh who jumped before a moving train also recorded a video before taking the drastic step. The incident took place on July 19.

Ghosh was reportedly in a relationship with a girl from Buribattala area of Sonapur. He met the girl when she visited her relative's house near his residence.

Police said that their relation strained in the last few months. The girl, who had clicked pictures with him, reportedly used them to blackmail him and extract money. She threatened Sourav that she would file a complaint of rape against him if he did not comply.

He said that the girl abused him on several occasions and that he also approached the girl's uncle who assured to help him. The deceased 21-year-old had also accused the girl's family of harassing him.

Sourav who suffered injuries was spotted by a local on the tracks. He was soon rushed to Barasat District Hospital, later he was shifted to Peerless Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

My son fell in love with a girl about which we got to know later. She used to blackmail my son by sending text messages saying that they had physical relations. She claimed that the she had video proofs of to substantiate her allegations and demanded money frequently.

Relatives of Sourav also told the police that the girl's family had even approached them to get her married to him.

My son left home due to enormous mental pressure. He went to my nephew's house and stayed there for about two days. Later, he committed suicide. I am waiting for justice now.
