TIRUVANNAMALAI: Suspecting wife’s fidelity, a 32-year-old worker committed suicide by jumping off an under construction electricity transmission tower at Nelvaaipalayam in Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu on Friday morning.
The deceased has been identified as A Ramesh, 32, of Enthuvampaadi. Ramesh and his wife, Geetha, had two daughters aged 8 and 6 years, police said. Recently, the couple started quarrelling with each other as he doubted her fidelity.

On Thursday evening, Ramesh picked up a quarrel with Geetha after she reached home late.

Around 5.30am on Friday, Ramesh climbed atop an electric transmission tower in nearby Nelvaaipalayam village. Some villagers who saw him, alerted the Kalamboor police. The police rushed to the spot with nets and other equipment to bring him down safely. Though the police tried to pacify him, Ramesh refused to heed to them.

Three of his relatives, who reached the spot by then, climbed the 300-foot tower and tried to bring him down. He started climbing down with them. After climbing 100 feet down, he jumped off the tower. His head hit on the angles on the tower before he fell on the ground. He died on the spot.
