BENGALURU: Hours before registering his marriage, a 24-year-old engineer with Hewlett Packard Enterprise has committed suicide allegedly due to harassment from his fiancé.
Domnic Rozariyo, a resident of Vasantnagar, took the extreme step at 11am on Friday. Domnic worked at HP’s Marathahalli office.
"Domnic was all set to register his marriage with a girl at 3pm on Friday, but he took the extreme step at 11am when his parents were away at work," police said. He was found hanging from the ceiling of his house by his parents when they returned home in the evening. "My son was under pressure to marry and the girl had asked him to kill himself if he did not marry her. He could not bear her harassment," his father told police.
Police said Domnic and the girl from the same area were in a relationship but differences cropped between them. After the woman filed a complaint, Domnic was called to High Grounds police station and the couple agreed for a compromise. But in April, the girl again came to the police station, stating Domnic had changed his contact number and was avoiding her. She alleged that he was in relationship with another girl.
Summoned to the station again, Domnic agreed to marry the girl after she threatened to file a rape complaint against him. The same day, both went to the sub-registrar’s office where they were asked to come a month later to register their marriage.
High Grounds police have registered a case under IPC 306 (abetment of suicide).
