The family of the 18-year-old Delhi boy, who was beaten to death over his friendship with a woman, alleged on Friday that initially, police were unwilling to register a case saying he didn't look brutally assaulted.

Rahul Rajput, an 18-year-old student of Delhi University, was beaten to death allegedly over his friendship with a girl. The incident had taken place on Wednesday evening in Delhi's Adarsh Nagar, police said.

Speaking to India Today TV, Rahul's mother said: "Police was at first unwilling to register a case saying that no apparent injuries were visible on the body of Rahul."

Rahul's uncle also said that the family did not know the men who assaulted the boy.

"One boy from the crowd was seen coming forward and saying that he is the one who assaulted him because he saw him speak to his sister," he said.

Meanwhile, police authorities have reached Adarsh Nagar to meet the family of the deceased.

The DCP North West Delhi has appealed to people to not give "any colour to the case" since it is a dispute between two families, news agency ANI reported.

WHAT HAPPENED

Rahul was a second-year student at Delhi University's School of Open Learning. He also provided tuition to school students, police added.

According to police, the victim was friends with a woman from his locality but her family was against the friendship.

Rahul's uncle earlier said in his statement that his nephew and the girl knew each other for close to two years. They lived in the same locality but the woman's parents, and especially her brothers, were against the friendship, police added.

On Wednesday evening, Rahul was called to Nanda Road on some pretext, and when he reached the spot, he was allegedly assaulted by a group of four-five people, including the girl's brothers, police said.

He sustained severe injuries in the assault and was rushed to a hospital, where he died during treatment, the officer said.

"The deceased did not have any visible injury. A post-mortem examination was conducted, and the doctor opined that rupturing of the spleen led to his death," said Vijayanta Arya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest).

Two people, including the girl's brother, have been arrested and three others apprehended, police said on Friday.
