By India Today Web Desk: As the investigation into Shraddha Walkar's murder case continues, the Delhi Police have cracked a similar crime in the eastern part of the national capital. A woman and her son were arrested on Monday by the Delhi Police crime branch for allegedly murdering her husband, Anjan Das. Soon after the arrest, the grisly details of the murder unraveled.

After the murder, which took place in May, the two, Poonam and her son Deepak, allegedly chopped up the body into 10 pieces, stored them in the fridge, and disposed of the body parts across several east Delhi neighbourhoods.

The murder is eerily similar to the murder where Aaftab Ameen Poonawala allegedly strangled his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar, chopped up her body into 35 pieces and then threw the pieces in south Delhi's Mehrauli forest earlier in May.

Here are the latest developments in the East Delhi murder case.

  • Anjan Das, a resident of Pandav Nagar in the eastern part of the city, who used to work as a lift man, was allegedly murdered and chopped into several pieces. The pieces were kept in a fridge before his wife and son disposed off the body parts in the neighborhood.

  • Das was allegedly killed in May by accused Poonam and her son Deepak. Police first found the body parts in Pandav Nagar in June and a case of murder was registered. The investigation, however, did not progress as the pieces of the body had decomposed. When the ghastly details of the Shraddha Walkar murder case started coming to the fore earlier this month, police probed to find out whether the unidentified body parts were hers.

  • According to police, Poonam and her son Deepak killed Anjan Das over an illicit affair. The victim was first given sleeping pills and later murdered, they added. The woman and her son then allegedly cut up his body, stored the pieces in a fridge and scattered them across Pandav Nagar and nearby areas. The police officers have recovered six pieces, but the torso is still missing, sources said.

  • Amit Goel, DCP Crime said, "Poonam married Anjan Das in 2017 after her husband Kallu passed away in 2016. Kallu was Deepak's father. Deceased Anjan was married in Bihar too and had eight children there. He wasn't earning and often use to fight." He added, "The mother-son made Anjan drink liquor and mixed sleeping pills in it. Then they slit his throat and left the body in the home for a day for the blood to drain out completely. Then they chopped the body into 10 pieces and six pieces have been recovered."

  • The body was chopped up using a knife and another sharp weapon. Both were kept in the freezer, Delhi Police sources added. The sharp weapon has been recovered and a search is on to find the knife used in the murder. The mother-son duo painted the house after storing the body parts in the fridge to avoid the obnoxious smell, sources added.

  • The police have accessed CCTV footage that shows Deepak walking with a bag in his hand late at night, during one of his trips to throw away the pieces, police said.
