JAIPUR: A 34-year-old woman and her paramour were arrested for beating her husband to death and burying the body in a sewer pit near a secluded locality on Sumel Road in Kanota. The duo was held from Madhya Pradesh on Saturday.
Anega, 34, mother of five children, was arrested along with her paramour Bhura Singh (27) for killing her husband Papu Kushwaha on October 19. Kushwaha’s body was recovered from the pit five days later on October 24.
Additional DCP (Jaipur east) Hanuman Prasad Meena said Anega and Singh killed Kushwaha with an iron rod. "Bhura Singh and Papu Kushwaha worked as labourers. Singh moved into the same house as tenant where Kushwaha lived with his family," said Meena.
Anega and Singh developed a relationship which Kushwaha objected. This led to regular fights between the couple. Anega decided to kill her husband, who was an alcoholic.
On the Diwali night, Bhura Singh entered Kushwaha’s room. "Kushwaha was in an inebriated condition when Bhura Singh and Anega attacked him with an iron rod and kept hitting till he died," said ADCP Meena.
The duo dragged the body to a sewer pit on Sumel Road and buried him. "A strong stench emanated from the pit. Police dug up the pit and found the body. We sent it to the mortuary. It was identified as that of Papu Kushwaha," said ACP Bassi Pushpendra Singh.
On October 26, Kushwaha’s father filed a case, following which police quizzed about 35 labourers who worked in that area.
"After the investigation, it was found that the victim’s wife was absconding. We sent a team to Madhya Pradesh and arrested the woman and her paramour," said an official.
The duo was arrested by a team of Kanota police. "Anega admitted that she killed her husband after he got to know about her illicit affair with Bhura Singh," said ADCP Meena.
