Chennai: The Kerala Police arrested a woman for allegedly plotting murder of her husband. Soujath (35) has been taken into custody by Tanus Police in Malappuram district for conspiring murder of her husband, Pourakath Savad (40), with her lover, Basheer.

The police said the 35-year-old woman was an accomplice in the murder of her husband.

Soujath's lover Basheer, who lives in Dubai, came down to Tanur to commit the murder. Basheer flew back after committing the crime.

Savad was found murdered at his house around 2.30 am on Thursday. Incidentally, it was Soujath who alerted the neighbours who in turn informed the police. The police found the body of Savad in a pool of blood.

According to the investigating officer MI Shaji, the victim's 12-year-old daughter informed the police that a man in black attire whacked her father with a weapon and ran away.

Further inquiries led to the arrest of Soujath. It is understood that when Basheer attacked Savad, the couple’s daughter woke up. However, Soujath locked her up in a room and slit her husband's throat to ensure his death.

Basheer landed in India to commit the murder on the morning of October 2. He flew back to Dubai on Thursday evening. Basheer’s friend, who helped him escape, has also been taken into custody.

Savad was a fisherman also did odd jobs to look after his family. Soujath and Basheer conspired to kill Savad so that they can live together, sources close to the development said.

According to the reports based on the information provided by Soujath, Basheer arrived in a car around 1.30 am on Thursday. After attacking Savad, Basheer's friend took him in the car to Mangalore airport from where he took a flight to Dubai.
