Trichy: Ammapettai police, on Saturday, detained a 28-year-old woman along with her paramour and two of his friends for murdering her husband. The incident came to light a year after it took place, when the police reopened an investigation following an order from Madurai bench of Madras high court.
The police recovered the skeletal remains from a pipeline in culvert and carried out the postmortem on the spot on Saturday. The police said that they would produce the accused in the court after thorough investigation.

T Ilanchezhiyan, 28, a native of Maranivariyendhal near Oomachikulam on new Natham Road in Madurai was murdered by his wife Revathi, 28, from Ammapettai in Thanjavur, her paramour, Elavalan, 25 from Pettuvachavadi, his friend Kaliyaperumal alias Vinod, 29 from Haridwaramangalam and an auto-driver Chinnathambi alias Manikandan, 33 from Gandharvakottai in Pudukottai district on January 13, 2018.

The parents of Ilanchezhiyan were under the impression that their son went missing. The murder that was committed over illicit affair between Revathi and Elavalan came to light after the police took up the re-investigation following the Madurai bench of Madras high court’s order on a habeas corpus petition filed by the parents of the man.

The Ammapettai police said that Elavalan and Kaliyaperumal strangulated Ilanchezhiyan to death with a towel at the alleged behest of Revathi at her house in Ammapettai on January 13 last year. They transported the body in the auto-rickshaw of Chinnathambi to Minnathur near Vallam in Thanjavur and dumped the body in a pipeline of a culvert connecting to a lake. They also blocked both ends of the pipeline with sand to prevent water flow.

The police investigation revealed that Ilanchezhiyan and Revathi lived in Ammapettai and had a six-year-old son.

Police said that Elavalan was one of Ilanchezhiyan’s friends and visited the latter’s house frequently sparking off an affair with Revathi. As their affair was exposed, Ilanchezhiyan reprimanded his wife and left for his native village near Madurai.

Revathi and Elavalan conspired to kill her husband. As per their plan, she apologized to her husband for her affair and asked him to visit her house on January 13, 2018. As he visited the house, he saw Elavalan and Kaliyaperumal at Revathi’s house. They apologized for the affair and served him liquor. As he got inebriated, they murdered him by strangulating him and dumped his body in the culvert.
