Surat police have registered a case of abetment of suicide against the wife and brother-in-law of the man who died by suicide two months ago in June, after a probe revealed that the man took the extreme step because of his wife and brother-in-law who forced him to eat beef.

The victim, Rohit Pratap Singh, uploaded a suicide note on Facebook before hanging himself. The Facebook post came to light two months after his suicide. Police have started an investigation into the matter.

The deceased, in the suicide note, said that he was threatened by them as well when he refused to eat beef.

"I am leaving this world. The cause of my death is my wife Sonam Ali and her brother Akhtar Ali. All my friends are requested to give me justice. I was fed beef by threatening to kill me. I don't deserve to live in this world anymore. That's why I am going to commit suicide," Rohit Pratap Singh wrote in his suicide note.

Rohit’s relatives got to know about the suicide note after two months of his death. They then contacted the Surat police.

How Rohit met Sonam

Rohit Rajput and Sonam used to work together in Surat and that is how they met each other. Soon they fell in love with each other and wanted to get married. However, Rohit’s family refused to their relationship as Sonam belonged to a different religion. They even threatened them with breaking all ties with Rohit if he married Sonam. Rohit, reportedly, married Sonam and started living with her. He had not been in touch with his family members for the past year.

Family demands justice

Rohit’s mother registered a complaint against Sonam and her brother Akhtar Ali after the relatives revealed that Rohit posted a suicide note on Facebook just before hanging himself. The victim’s mother, Veena Devi, demanded punishment for the culprits of her son's death.

Surat Police ACP JT Sonara said that the Udhna police station has registered a case against Sonam and her brother Akhtar on the basis of the suicide note and have started an investigation.
