Shankar IAS Academy founder D Shankaran commits suicide in Chennai

CHENNAI: D Shankaran, founder and CEO of Shankar IAS Academy, a civil services coaching centre in Chennai, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his house at Mylapore on Thursday night. He was 45.
Police said Shankaran committed suicide after a fight with his wife. The couple had had some issues for the last few months, police said .

After a fight with his wife on Thursday night, Shankaran went into his room after midnight and locked himself in it. Since repeated knocks did not elicit any response, his relatives broke open the door and found him hanging from the ceiling. He used a bedsheet to hang himself.

His relatives took him to a private hospital in Mylapore where he was declared brought dead.

Police said Shankaran had not left behind any suicide note.

He is survived by wife and two daughters.

After postmortem in Government Royapettah Hospital, the body was placed at the IAS academy for the public to pay homage. Later, it was be taken to Nallagoundapalayam near Thiruchengodu.

Shankaran, a native of Krishnagiri, started Shankar IAS Academy in Anna Nagar in 2004.

"He was a knowledgeable person. He is a motivator to lot of civil service aspirants," said Vaishnavi, an IAS aspirant.

I feel sad for people who end their lives nonchalantly, without even pausing for a moment. if there are irreconcilable difference with their spouse just move on in life. Divorce is the best legal remedy one has today rather than ending their life.
