Haridwar: In a plot straight from a Bollywood potboiler, a woman got her husband killed by her lover and then raised an alarm about her husband’s disappearance thinking it will be a ‘happily ever after story’ once the probe of her husband’s disappearance melts down. However, her involvement in the crime was soon revealed. Both the woman and her paramour are currently absconding although they have been booked by police.
On January 26, Reena Devi’s lover Manjeet Singh and his friend Ravi Kumar invited Reena’s husband Devendra Singh for drinks, and after getting Devendra inebriated, the two men allegedly strangulated him to death and disposed his body in a sugarcane field in Haridwar. Then, Reena and Manjeet reached Devendra’s native village that falls under the jurisdiction of Sidcul police station and informed his family of his disappearance. Devendra’s kin subsequently approached the police.

SHO Sidcul police station Devraj Sharma said, "We smelled something fishy as Reena was constantly changing her statement. Meanwhile, Reena and her paramour Manjeet fled from the village without telling anyone. Then, we detained Ravi and during questioning he confessed to the crime. We found Devendra’s body on Monday morning and arrested Ravi in connection with murder. A case has been registered against Reena and Manjeet who are still on the run."
