Mumbai: Woman arrested for husband's murder

Thane: A 20-year-old woman, who got married just nine months ago, was today arrested by the police for allegedly killing her husband after a heated argument.

Swarupa Waghmare, who used to sell petty items in the suburban trains to make a living, got married to one Ravi Waghmare around nine months ago, Thane Police PRO Sukhada Narkar said. The couple, residing in Mohane area of Kalyan township, often had fights over Ravi Waghmare’s drinking habit, the officer said.

Yesterday, Ravi Waghmare came home and asked his wife to serve him lunch. This led a heated argument between the two. The verbal fight turned ugly when Swarupa, in a fit of rage, allegedly attacked her husband with a knife, Narkar said.

The 25-year-old man suffered severe wounds and was rushed to a local hospital. He was later transferred to the Kalwa Civic Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds at about 9 last night, Narkar said. Police arrested Swarupa Waghmare and charged her with murder.
