Gujarat: Ex-girlfriend held for constable’s murder

AHMEDABAD: In a twist to the gruesome murder of constable Umesh Khode (27), who was stabbed to death, Bapunagar police arrested his former girlfriend, Varsha Rajput (20). Police officials said they have evidence to show that Varsha conspired with her current boyfriend, Ravi Bhadoriya (21), to eliminate Khode.
DCP Zone 4 Himkarsingh said that they summoned Varsha based on suspicion. "She was questioned by women police officers. We had call records showing Rajput and Bhadoriya had a long chat just before Khode was called to Sonariya Block in Bapunagar and stabbed to death," added DCP Himkarsingh.
Khode, a constable with Botad police, was attacked by three persons near Sonariya Block in Bapunagar late on Sunday night.
Three suspects, including the prime accused Ravi Bhadoriya, a third-year college student, his friend Chandrakant Kechi and a minor were arrested hours after the stabbing.
Himkarsingh said Khode and Varsha were in a relationship for the last three years. "After Rajput’s sister married Bhadoriya’s brother, she and Bhadoriya got into a relationship, to which Khode was proving a hindrance. They then decided to eliminate him," added Himkarsingh.
A cross complaint was registered by Bhadoriya against the Khode, for stabbing him.
According to the complaint lodged by Khode’s brother Ghanshyam, his brother left their house at Sumin Park Society in Vastral at about 8.30 pm on Sunday night on his motorcycle.
"He later received a call from Shardaben Hospital saying that his brother had been brought there with 12 stab wounds and was critical. Ghanshyam alleged that while he was being treated, Umesh had told him that Bhadoriya had called him to Sonariya Block," said a senior police official.
According to police sources, Bhadoriya had showed Khode a selfie of him with Rajput and told Khode to stay away from her. "Khode in turn showed Bhadoriya his own selfies with Rajput. This resulted in a fight, during which Bhadoriya pulled out a knife and stabbed Khode. Khode fought off Bhadoriya and his friends and managed to stab Bhadoriya in his arm after wresting the knife from him. Khode succumbed to his wounds at Shardaben Hospital," added a police source.
