Neetu (left) and her lover Harpal were arrested on Saturday
GHAZIABAD: A woman allegedly killed her husband with the help of her lover and another friend and buried the body in a piece of land where a house was being built - a plot bearing stark resemblance with that of the movie 'Drishyam'.
The woman, Neetu, and her lover, Harpal, were arrested on Saturday and the body recovered from the construction site in Bisrakh. The cops are looking for the third accused - a mason named Gaurav.
Police started probing the case on January 10, when Ghaziabad resident Chotelal lodged a complaint that his brother, Satish Pal, was missing for the past one week. The cops questioned Satish's wife, Neetu, as she was yet to lodge any complaint although her husband was missing for over 7 days. But the investigators hardly found any leads.
The police then traced down Harpal, a Gaur City resident who would visit Neetu and Satish often. After sustained questioning, Harpal broke down and admitted to have killed Satish with the help of Neetu and Gaurav.According to the police, Neetu and Harpal had developed a liking for each other of late and wanted to get married. A mason by profession, Harpal planned to kill Satish with the help of Neetu and bury the body in the neighbourhood plot. Satish roped in Gaurav for the crime. Both had been working to build a house on the plot.
On January 2, Neetu spiked the drink of Satish when he returned home. When he went to sleep, she and the two others throttled him to death. Just to be sure he had died, they strangled him with a towel again.
"They then dragged the body to a nearby plot where a neighbour was building a house. Harpal and Gaurav buried the body and built a septic tank over it," said Vishal Pandey, the additional DCP. "Once we had the information, we took permission from the house owner to dig the portion of the plot and found the remains there on Saturday night. They were sent for an autopsy."
Harpal and Neetu were arrested on Saturday. An FIR was lodged against them under sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of an offence committed, or giving false information to screen the offender), 34 (common intention) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.
Pandey clarified that though the plot of the murder had a stark similarity with 'Drishyam', the trio did not take any idea from the movie.
