Yeshwanthpur police in Bengaluru arrested a 27-year-old woman, who allegedly murdered her husband, and cooked up a fake story that he was killed by robbers so that she could live with her boyfriend.

A police official said that the woman, identified as Dilli Rani confessed to the crime when they confronted her with the evidence.

"The woman confessed to the crime when we confronted her with the evidence. We have recovered the knife she had used to murder her husband," a police official said as reported by The Indian Express.

Police have launched a manhunt to nab the woman’s boyfriend who is suspected to have links to the murder.

Dilli Rani lived with her husband Shankar Reddy and their seven-year-old son in Yeshwanthpur. Shankar was working in a private firm. The couple hailed from Andhra Pradesh.

On Thursday, the couple’s son woke up in the middle of the night and saw his parents lying on the floor in a pool of blood. The boy then rushed to their landlord’s house for help. Then the couple was rushed to the hospital where Shankar was declared dead by the doctors. Rani had sustained cuts on her hand, reported The Indian Express.

Rani informed the police that unknown persons had barged into their house and attacked her. She added that the robbers attacked with a knife before fleeing with a gold chain.

However, when police sought more details about the incident, the police grew suspicious of her inconsistent statements. Further investigation revealed that the gold chain she said was taken by the robbers had been hidden in a cloth, police said.

Police further told the analysis of the crime scene indicated that there were no signs of forced entry into the house and that the injuries that Rani sustained were self-inflicted, reported The Indian Express.

Police added that when they examined Rani’s mobile phone, they found that Rani was in a relationship with another man from her native place and she had hatched a plot to kill her husband so that she could live with her boyfriend.
